Prime Minister Imran Khan on Thursday inaugurated an education and residential complex to provide education and living to orphans and unattended children in Mirpur, Azad Kashmir.
The facility was built by Kashmir Orphan Relief Trust (KORT), a UK based non-profit organization raising orphan children at a purpose-built home.
This education cum residential complex consists of a school for up to 1,500 orphans, a separate building that includes laundry, cooking and dining facilities where up to 600 orphan children can dine at one time, separate hostels for 500 orphan girls and 500 orphan boys, and an onsite Mosque for 1500 worshippers that has washroom and ablution facilities for disabled people.
The Prime Minister was accompanied by Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi, Kashmir Affairs Minister Ali Amin Gandapur, Azad Jammu and Kashmir Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider and Chairman of Parliamentary Committee on Kashmir Syed Fakhar Imam.
Chairman of the Trust Chaudhry Mohammed Akhtar briefed the Prime Minister about the project and the facilities being provided there for the orphans. The Prime Minister, who earlier unveiled the plaque of the project. The PM also took a tour of the facility, including classrooms and hostel. Khan also joined the children of the orphanage over lunch and interacted with them.
