Punjab Approves Single National Curriculum for Primary Schools 

Punjab Cabinet approved Single National Curriculum (SNC)  for provincial schools that will start implementing in the academic year 2021.
Punjab Education Minister Dr Murad Raas said, “The Punjab cabinet approved a single national curriculum. We will be implementing it in School Year 2021 InshAllah. “
He clarified that the Single National Curriculum would be from grade one through grade five.
The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government in its manifesto and election campaigns repeatedly said the party would bring a uniform curriculum for all cadres of education.
Prime Minister Imran Khan has also said that a uniform education system would end the class-based system in Pakistan.
He argued that the class-based education system would end in the country as all children would get equal opportunities to excel.
It is pertinent to note that the Prime Minister last month chaired a meeting on uniform education curriculum.
The federal education ministry in collaboration with the provinces is spearheading efforts to introduce a single-national curriculum at the primary level — both in public and private schools and religious seminaries.

Ministers Discuss Education, Exam Schedules in Face of Corona Virus

In an online video conference on Thursday, Federal and provincial Ministers Discuss the Education, Exam Schedules of schools in Face of the Corona Virus.

The Federal Minister for Education Shafqat Mehmood presided over the online conference whereas provincial education ministers of all the provinces, secretaries of school and higher education departments also attended the conference.
The conference was aimed at discussing the education related issues of all provinces amid corona virus. Extending vacations in educational institutions and examination schedules of different classes were also discussed. Punjab education ministries would finalize a decision regarding both issues after committee meetings.
It is pertinent to mention here that all provinces have already extended vacations in schools till May 31st and termed them as a part of summer vacations. Punjab government cabinet meeting on Tuesday extended vacations in schools till May 31st, and announced that these vacations will be part of summer vacations.
The Cabinet also decided that half of the fee would be charged to the students during this period, but the teachers would receive their full salaries. The Punjab government earlier announced closing schools till April 5th in wake of Corona Virus.

Steps Afoot to Avoid Educational Loss of Students Amidst Corona Crisis

The Higher Education Commission (HEC) has developed a data bank of the online courses, to avoid educational loss of students, available at the national and international level and shared it with universities, while the university faculty has also been asked to prepare virtual courses for dissemination to students.

This was stated by Chairman Higher Education Commission (HEC) Tariq Banuri in a message on the prevailing situation created by corona-virus.

The Chairman said that the corona-virus pandemic has endangered the entire world. As a precautionary measure, students of all the public sector universities have been given a three-week break under instructions by the Government. The ongoing vacations may be adjusted in the summer holidays, however if the prevailing situation persists, the online lectures activity will help avoid educational loss of students. In the meantime, faculty members will take advantage of the break to prepare online lectures for the students to mitigate the disruption in provision of education.

He urged the Vice Chancellors to follow the guidelines about precautions to protect essential staff and faculty from the virus. HEC has issued comprehensive guidelines in this regard, and has also taken precautionary measures at the HEC offices.

He requested all experts and highly educated persons, including faculty members, students, and staff of universities to use their advanced knowledge to keep abreast of the latest information about the corona virus and share it with other people in their communities.

Some information in this regard has been circulated among universities and is available at the HEC website. “People should be advised to take the necessary precautions to protect themselves against the virus.” This is a social responsibility of all educated people with access to global media and expert knowledge. He said the people feeling ill should self-isolate themselves and limit their contact with people.
