Higher Education Commission (HEC) of Pakistan has launched a roadshow to spread awareness among faculty members and researchers about the newly developed Research and Development (R&D) framework.
The Chinese embassy in Islamabad organised a ceremony to award scholarships to 62 Pakistani students selected by the Pakistan’s Higher Education Commission. These bright students Secured full scholarships from the Chinese government to pursue their graduate, masters and doctoral degree programmes at leading Chinese universities.

The Punjab government has decided to change the nomenclature of two-year degree programs in the province, especially BA/BSc programs, with the two year degree now set to be called an Associate Degree.
The government despite its claims of furthering the cause of higher education in the country has planned a sweeping cut of 40 percent in the funding of the Higher Education Commission in the coming fiscal year.
Following the Higher Education Commission’s (HEC) directive to halt numerous MPhil and PhD programs, the University of Punjab (PU) has vowed to improve its MPhil/PhD programs by bringing them in line with the national and international standards and criteria.
In the official press release, a spokesperson of the university quoted that Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof Niaz Ahmad ordered the officials to halt further admissions in programs that have failed to meet the Higher Education Commission criteria.
Sources added that the Higher Education Commission directed the administration of Punjab University to immediately cease its MPhil and PhD degree programs offered by the Department of Gender Studies and University College of Art and Design (UCAD), respectively.
The University College of Art and Design was started as the Department of Fine Arts in 1940 and now it has 8 sub-departments. On the other hand, the Department of Gender Studie was established in 2001 as the pioneer in the subject in Pakistan.
Moreover, other departments of the varsity, particularly the ones where the number of student intakes exceeded the prescribed limit would be reviewed, in a bid to unleash the backlog before fresh students’ intake.
As many as 262 undergraduate students from Pakistani universities were awarded scholarships under HEC-USAID Scholarship Programme that awards grants on merit and needs basis during a ceremony held at the Commission Secretariat on Thursday.
The Higher Education Commission (HEC) is organizing 14th All Pakistan HEC Intervarsity Women Cricket Championship from March 22-26, 2019 at Shalimar Cricket Ground, Islamabad. As many as 22 universities are participating in this Championship. The opening ceremony of the event will be held at Shalimar Cricket Ground on Friday.
The 42nd All Pakistan HEC Women Tennis Championship 2018-19, being organised by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) with technical assistance of Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF), will start today at PTF Tennis Complex, Garden Avenue, Islamabad. The championship will continue till March 15, 2019.
The decision of Higher Education Commission of conferring Research Travel Grant Programme (TGF) to varsities has been opposed by scholars, deeming the act would lead to further victimization of scholars and faculty members at the hands of university administration while reimburisng and issuing funds.
