National Licensing Exam held at JSMU

Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) organized the National Licensing Exam (NLE) held under the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC). A total of sixty-seven candidates participated in the two-day examination.

Vice-Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon visited the examination center and reviewed the arrangements along with Controller Examination, Dr Anita Shah.

Prof Amjad Siraj Memon said that Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) is proud to assist the Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC) in conducting the National Licensing Examination (NLE) and considers it a national duty to enhance the quality of Medical Education in the country.

Controller Examination, Dr Anita Shah shared, that complete arrangements were made by the examination department of JSMU while examination material was provided by Pakistan Medical Commission (PMC). The Controller Examination thanked the Vice Chancellor JSMU, Prof Amjad Siraj Memon for his support in organizing the National Licensing Exam (NLE).

Twenty-two Pakistan Medical Commission examiners were present in the examination center. The Pakistan Medical Commission PMC was represented by Chief Examiner Prof. Nayyar-ul-Islam, Khalid Usman and Muhammad Anwar.

The NLE consists of two components, a theory component and a skill-based clinical component. The theory component consists of MCQs targeting higher cognition and will check a candidate’s ability to apply knowledge. It has 200 MCQs in which 70% are from clinical sciences disciplines and 30% from basic sciences disciplines.

The Clinical Skills Examination (CSE) is meant to assess essential clinical skills required for practice by a general medical practitioner. The format of CSE is similar to that of an Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Only candidates qualifying in the theory (MCQs) component of NLE will be eligible for the CSE.
