Christmas celebrations Held at GCU

LAHORE: The Government College University Lahore faculty, staff members and students celebrated Christmas with the university’s Christian community. Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi and Guest of Honor Dr. Bishop Azad Marshall cut the Christmas cake with the university’s Christian staff and faculty members.

Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr Asghar Zaidi said that GCU had always stood out for promoting tolerance and religious harmony. He hoped that the second wave of COVID-19 would be over soon and they would hold a bigger event with the families on Easter.

Bishop Azad Marshall said that all religions teach peace. He said Christmas was a time of delight, sharing the joys and sufferings of others, acceptance, forgiveness, reconciliation, celebrations and promoting love and peace.

Dr Peter John from the university’s Chemistry Department also spoke on the occasion.

The Christian community expressed gratitude and said that Christmas gave the message of peace and love to all humanity.

PU VC Promotes Inter-Faith Harmony

Punjab University Vice Chancellor Prof. Niaz Ahmad addressed the ceremony organized by Punjab University’s Christian community on Tuesday. Stressing the importance of interfaith harmony, he encouraged following the teachings of the Prophets as they preached love and peace in the world. He said Hazrat Esa A.S. helped the ailing humanity and showed the right path to his people.

Prof. VC Saleem Mazhar, Registrar Khalid Khan, President Academic Staff Association Dr. Mumtaz Anwar, Secretary Javed Sami, leader of PU Christian community Chaudhry Mushtaq Masih, Bishop Arif Khurram, Pastor John, Christian employees and their families were present on the occasion.

Prof Ahmad said that minorities were enjoying their rights in Pakistan. He said that PU was also providing them equal opportunities at all levels and they were getting employment opportunities on merit.

He also announced an honorarium of Rs 3,000 for Christian employees on the eve of Christmas.
