Punjab Higher Education Commission Chairman Professor Dr Fazal Ahmed Khalid has said that they will request the government to establish Punjab Research Fund for promotion of research culture in the province.
While talking to Academia Magazine, Fazal called for strengthening industry-academia linkages in order to provide jobs to the youth. He said that during the current year, the government has allocated lesser amount for the commission as compared to the previous year.
The chairman said that they would formally present recommendations to increase the allocation in the next financial year. “Capable people will be recruited on merit in commission,” added Dr Fazal.
The PHEC chairman said that appointment of vice chancellors on merit was a prerequisite of maintaining the quality of education in the universities. He further commented that unemployment would decrease when capable graduates become available in the market.
Prof Dr Fazal mentioned that the government was planning to establish new universities in order to accommodate more students. The process of establishing a new technical and general university for South Punjab would be completed soon, he added.
