A Pakistani student Muhammad Asim Siddique, studying at Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM) has been elected as President International Students Society.
Asim is studying PhD in Computer Science at UTM Malaysia and contested the election of President at ISS which represents students from more than 90 countries. He grabbed 189 votes while his opponent Abdullahi Olayiwola Alfa from Nigeria grabbed 166 votes.
Other office bearers included Aiman Ahmed Shareef of Maldives as Vice President, Oumaima Maroua Bouguerra of Algeria as Vice President of Women’s Affairs, Anas Ahmed Abdelbagi of Sudan as Honorary Secretary and Abdul Rahman Muhammud Nur of Somalia as Honorary Treasurer.
Muhamad Asim Siddique was earlier elected as President International Students Society-Pakistan (ISS-Pak) for session 2022/2023.
In his speech after being elected as President of ISS Asim Siddique said his aim is to carry forward UTM International’s mission and value which is to expand UTM’s global reach and prominence, facilitate transformative global education and cross-cultural learning opportunities, and support the inclusion and wellbeing of its local and international communities. My vision is similar to UTM International’s vision which is to make ISS a leading and referred international center with a worldwide standing that drives UTM to be a global university with an excellent reputation, he said.
