Punjab Affiliate Society of Women Engineers, (SWE, US) in collaboration with Pakistan Engineering Council (PEC) and the University of Engineering & Technology (UET) Lahore organized a CPD workshop on Leadership styles for Challenging Dynamics, in Chemical Engineering Department UET Lahore. It also included MoU between Punjab Affiliate SWE, US and PEC. Moreover, the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs) wall in the Chemical Engineering Department was inaugurated by Chairman PEC and VC UET Lahore.
An MoU for strengthening cooperation for equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI) and belonging in the field of engineering was signed by Chairman PEC Engr Muhammad Najeeb Haroon on behalf of PEC and by Pattern in Chief of Punjab Affiliate SWE, US, Engr Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar. President Punjab Affiliate SWE, Engr Prof Dr Saima Yasin and Director, Engr Prof.Dr Naveed Ramzan signed as witnesses.
In her speech, Dr Saima narrated the benefits of MoU. She explained that gender stereotypes should be broken through awareness campaigns and women should also excel in the field of engineering. Moreover, no field should be restricted for any particular gender. CPD activities should be conducted to inculcate confidence in them.
Motivational speaker Mr Qasim Ali Shah explained that through perseverance and by remaining true to your passion and dreams, you can achieve anything in the world. However, humility should always be a part of your personality.
Vice Chancellor UET Lahore, Engr Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar, also stressed that hard work along with perseverance always pays off. And if we realistically ponder upon our existence, we will understand that keeping in mind the 93.3 Billion light years as the diameter of visible universe, we are nothing more than 7.8 billion creatures living on a small portion of a dust particle.
Therefore we should always stay humble, which is an essential characteristic of a true leader. Additionally, women should be provided with a conducive environment to reach their full potentials. He appreciated Dr Saima Yasin for establishing Punjab Affiliate of SWE, being the first fir creating awareness about EDI, and conducting seminars and CPDs for encouraging and grooming young women engineers. He also praised Dr Naveed Ramzan for his contributions in organizing SWE events and CPDs for young engineers.
The head of HR Relationship Management center at Habib Bank Limited (HBL) Shehlale Javed Khan shed light on several steps which have been taken for inclusion of women in the job industry. She also said that the General Secretary SWE, Saba Iqbal has rightly pointed out that diversity and equity for women engineers will be much easier to achieve with the support from the male counterparts of the field.
The President Sundar Industrial Estate (SIE) Mr Muhammad Ahmad highlighted the radical steps his company has taken to encourage female employees.
Chief Guest Chairman PEC Engr Muhammad Najeeb Haroon said that the crises Pakistan is being faced with can only be solved by Engineers and their excellent engineering solutions. He encouraged female engineers to fully participate in industry for the betterment of the country. He explained that despite all setbacks, one should not lose hope. And ultimately one’s dreams will transform into reality.
Dr Naveed Ramzan thanked Chairman PEC, VC UET, president SIE, ex President SIE Mr Haroon Ali Khan, Ms Shehlale Javed Khan and HBL team and President SWE and all SWE members.
Furthermore souvenirs of Punjab Affiliate SWE were distributed among distinguished women engineers, guests of honor, and female audience by Engr Najeeb Haroon. Afterwards UN SDG’s wall in the Chemical Engineering Department was inaugurated.
Networking session was held over a cup of tea. Women engineers expressed their issues to higher authorities. Afterwards CPD session was run by Dr Saima Yasin and Dr Naveed Ramzan followed by certificate distribution in the closing ceremony.
