With an aim to provide free of cost education along with other facilities for orphans, a new project The Lighthouse has been inaugurated. Mrs Nasreen Mahmud Kasuri, Chairperson Beaconhouse Group, inaugurated The Lighthouse, which is a project of the Mahmud Ali Kasuri (MAK) Welfare Trust. Project Director Amina Wattoo Kasuri, students were also present in the inauguration ceremony.
The Lighthouse has been launched with the aim to provide a loving home for orphans, to nurture them into empowered, confident individuals. The facility provides free lodging, education, medical services and treatments, transportation facilities, nutritious meals, and financial support to less privileged children, under the supervision of trained and dedicated staff.
While speaking on occasion, Director The Lighthouse, Amina Wattoo Kasuri said that The Lighthouse is a home, a safe space created with love and care. She added, “Our vision is to invest in children’s lives today in order to transform their future, she said adding that by creating this safe space we aim to provide an environment where children can thrive and where love and education is central.
We recognize that positive change takes time and we are committed to improving the lives of disadvantaged children for the long haul. As our name suggests, we aim to be the guiding light that safely leads children towards a secure future.”
Amina Wattoo further elaborated, “With a journey spanning over four decades in providing quality education, the aspiration to create safe spaces with an exceptional learning environment has always been there. We believe, every child has the right to grow up in a supportive family environment, to be loved and to live in safety, with dignity, respect and access to quality education. These are the guiding principles of The Lighthouse; my family and my contribution to supporting the often invisible 4.6 million orphan children in Pakistan.”
MAK Welfare Trust was established in 1994, as an independent non-profit organization that works towards the development and uplift of the deserving members of society. The Trust and its key donors, Beaconhouse, the Kasuri family, and Beaconhouse employees, have consistently responded with meaningful contributions during national crises including the 2005 earthquake that devastated the northern areas of Pakistan, the IDP crisis of 2009, and the massive flooding of 2010 and 2014.
