A memorandum of understanding (MoU) was signed between the Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (Tevta) and Beti, a media advocacy programme, as part of a set of measures by Punjab TEVTA for bringing women in the mainstream.
The scope of the MoU will include facilitation and cooperation towards each other for women empowerment.
A meeting of Federation of All Pakistan Universities Academic Staff Association (FAPUASA) Punjab Chapter was held in University of Engineering and Technology Lahore in which a large number of elected representatives from all Punjab participated. The crux of the meeting and press conference were to save higher education.
Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) skills summer camps, for the first time, are being set up across Punjab, says a press release.
Chairman TEVTA Hafiz Farhat Abbas was holding a meeting of officials at the TEVTA Secretariat. He said that for the first time TEVTA skills summer camps are being set up across Punjab. In summer camps 19 short courses will be started for boys while 16 for girls. These courses included mobile repairing, motorbike mechanic, beautician, fashion designing, professional cooking, web designing and others.
Summer camp classes will begin on June 12, he said. He also advised the operation wing to maintain similar quality standards in all districts and that no compromise should be made on quality. Chairman Hafiz Farhat Abbas also said that the government is considering all resources for employment of youngsters of Punjab.

The recent appointment of TEVTA Punjab Chairperson Hafiz Farhat Abbas has been questioned in a detailed letter addressed to the Punjab governor, chief minister, the chief secretary and industries secretary.
The Government of Punjab has issued an ordinance that will provide legal cover to a proposed technical and vocational education university being built in Lahore with assistance from China.
Following an approval from Chief Minister Pervez Khattak, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government will be offering free vocational training to financially disadvantaged students in Technical Education and Vocational Training Authority (TEVTA) institutes across the province.
Presiding over a meeting the other day, Khattak also sanctioned the creation of the new post titled TEVTA chief executive officer. He also ordered officials of TEVTA and KP Economic Zone and Development Management Committee (EZDMC) to work together to execute the government’s plans of setting up vocational institutes in industrial zones across the province.
Khattak said his government lay great focus on producing skilled human resource through vocational training centers, adding that affairs of these institutes must conform to best practices of merit and transparency. The CM said the institutes’ officials should make haste while awarding certificates to successful candidates and should also assist graduates land jobs according to their respective expertise.
The meeting also considered a revision in TEVTA’s proposed budget for the year 2017-18.
