Two-day research & technology showcase concluded at NED

Provincial Minister for Universities and Boards Sindh government Ismail Rahoo visited the Research and Technology Showcase 2022 held at NED University.

He presided over the concluding session of the two-day event that was jointly organized by the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC) and NED University of Engineering & Technology (NEDUET). At the end of the exhibition, he lauded the efforts of students, teachers, NED University of Engineering & Technology, and Sindh Higher Education Commission.

We have very talented youth and today’s exhibition is proof that they can potentially lead the country in the technological era. It is a beneficial process to showcase the talent of the youth through the research projects of the exhibition. These views were expressed by the provincial minister.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that technologies are making life easier. In today’s world, revolution can be brought about with the help of academia and industry.

On the occasion, Secretary Board and Universities Mureed Rahimo said that I congratulate Higher Education Commission Sindh and NED University on successfully organizing Research and Technology Showcase, a very beneficial event. Such events would be encouraged in the future so that university students could display their talent.

SMIU students showcase their new android apps

Sindh Madressatul Islam University (SMIU) has participated in the two-day Research and Technology Showcase 2022, held at Expo Centre, Karachi on Friday and Saturday- May 19 and 20. SMIU showcased its three projects of android apps at the exhibition, which were Highway App, Crops Disease Detection and ApkaCare App.

The projects were appreciated by the leading universities and major industry players of Sindh. Vice-Chancellor of SMIU Prof Dr Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon and faculty members have congratulated the faculty members Mr  Muhammad Ameen Chhajro, Ms  Saima Sippy and Ms Syeda Wajiha Naim for successfully supervising and finalizing the projects and guiding their talented students Mr Shahbaz Khan, Ms Ayesha Khalid, Ms Seema Sikander, Mr Daniyal Khan, and Mr Hamza Asghar for showcasing their projects.

It was Pakistan’s first Expo for advancement of research and commercialization culture and facilitating the industry-Academia Collaboration. This mega-event was a joint venture of NEDUET and the Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC). Over 340 commercialization-ready research and technology products developed by more than 32 universities were displayed in the exhibition.

SMIU’s students project “Highway App” was a GPS application with a built-in React Native for nearest places finder for the tourists and travelers on one click. In case of any emergency like accident or any needs of police station user can get location on one click. It also provides a service to easily find the nearest places includes Fuel Pumps (petrol pumps, CNG and diesels pumps), transport stations (bus stops, airport and railway stations), food (hotels, fruits, pizza and burger), stay (restaurants, cafe), shopping (malls, market stores, mobile shops, books), vehicle (car wash stations, mechanic, puncture shop), prayer places (mosques) and emergency (police stations, fire brigade, clinic) etc. This project was prepared by student of SMIU’s computer science department Shahbaz Khan, and supervisor was Mr Mohammad Ameen Chhajro.

The second project was “Crops Disease Detection”.  It was Artificial Intelligence based android app, which was built in React Native for health status of plants to enhance Pakistan’s economy. This real time plant disease recognition app would deliver accurate information about plants. It will reduce the huge work of monitoring in big crop fields and in early stages, detects symptoms of disease. This project was prepared by Ayesha Khalid, a student of Computer Science and project supervisor was Ms. Saima Sippy.

The third project of SMIU was “ApkaCare”, It was also an android app about maintaining patient medical history by uploading their medical reports so that they can easily get such reports whenever they need. This application can also assist the medical industry including medical laboratories for testing, charges and location issues as well as requiring blood etc.  It also can support a patient by providing online doctors’ consultation to him/her including the first aid treatments, before reaching the hospital.

This project was jointly prepared by Seema Sikander, Daniyal Khan and Hamza Asghar, students of Department of Computer Science and the supervisor was Ms. Wajiha Naim.

NED and SHEC to showcase 340 new technology projects

The Nadirshaw Edulji Dinshaw University of Engineering and Technology, commonly known as NED University (NEDUET) and Sindh Higher Education Commission (SHEC) jointly organized a two-day seminar titled ‘Research and Technology Showcase 2022’.

Provincial Minister for Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah will be the chief guest. The NEDUET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Sarosh Hashmat Lodi said; “I believe that the technologies to be introduced will not only create innovation in lives but it will also achieve better results in less time. This seminar aims to highlight new technologies and research to the newcomers so that they could use them and enlighten the future of Pakistan”.

Chairman of Sindh Higher Education Commission Dr Tariq Rafi said that the provincial higher education commission is playing a pivotal role in the promotion of research and technology along with education. Our aim is to bring out Pakistani talent through this showcase.

Talking about the technologies to be introduced, the NED University Office of Research, Innovation, and Commercialization (ORIC) Director Dr Riaz Uddin said that in this showcase, about 32 universities across Sindh will showcase more than 340 of their projects out of which 100 are NED projects.

UIT Holds National Science And Innovation Fair 2019

Usman Institute of Technology (UIT) affiliated with NED University of Engineering & Technology, Karachi, partnered with the Pakistan Science Club (PSC) to organise ‘National Science and Innovation Fair 2019’ (NSIF19) at UIT Karachi campus and included concurrent happenings of IEEE YESIST12 and IEEE SPECTRUM’19. The chief guest of the event was ECO Science President Prof Dr Manzoor Hussain Soomro, while the guest of honour was distinguished Emeritus Professor Dr Bhawani Shankar Chowdary, along with other esteemed guests and students.


Financial And Administrative Irregularities Unearthed In Top Sindh Varsities

Massive financial and administrative irregularities have been unearthed in the financial accounts of public universities and education board in Sindh. According to sources, the officials were not only involved in the misappropriation of funds but were also transferring the money between accounts, violating the rules that govern the utilization of funds and appointments of managerial personnel’s.


NED University Best in Pakistan In THE University Impact Rankings 2019
