In an incisive policy move, Italy has decided to include sustainability and climate-change awareness into the curriculum at all public schools. The decision has generated massive support from stakeholders across the board. Environmental advocates have praised the move, however, conservative factions still seem to have reservation regarding the decision.
Back in the days of my school life at public school in Mansehra, I often considered education equivalent to obedience, muteness, fear of teachers and following orders. I can recall clearly how I moved from class sixth to eighth, with not an iota of knowledge added into my educational arsenal. The teachers either did not know about the subjects they taught, or simply could not be bothered to care.
The worth of educational qualifications can be deduced from the quality and meaning they add to a student’s life and the ways they prepare them to face professional challenges and obstacles. Significant changes in curriculum are underway and the government is committed to taking all measures to facilitate children by improving the conditions of the public sector schools in the province, Punjab School Education Minister Murad Raas said on Thursday.
