PIDE holds fourth annual convocation

The Pakistan Institute of Development (PIDE) holds its fourth annual convocation on Tuesday.

According to a press statement issued by PIDE, the Minister for Planning and Development and Chancellor of PIDE, Professor Ahsan Iqbal, was the chief guest at the fourth annual convocation held at Jinnah Convention Center.

“We live in an age of information; economic & social policy can no longer remain isolated from real-time data & robust research foundations. New forces of technology, information, globalization, & innovation are shifting development paradigms.” said minister Ahsan Iqbal.

The event was attended by graduate students, and their parents, and noted academics in education, economics and research from across Pakistan.

On the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor of PIDE, Dr Nadeem-ul-Haque an eminent economist, gave a detailed account of PIDE’s achievements and services to the country in the fields of academia and research, the statement added.

The PIDE was established at Karachi in 1957 and in 1964 accorded the status of an autonomous research organization by the Government of Pakistan. Over the past 61 years PIDE has earned an international reputation and recognition for its research. Our faculty is rich and our advisory committee consists of world-renowned economists such as Nobel Laureate Robert A Mundell.

PIDE is now located at the Quaid-i-Azam University (QAU) Islamabad, the capital of Pakistan.  The Institute, in November 2006, was granted the degree awarding status and hence providing quality education which is affordable but of world class standard in this region along with a truly stimulating learning environment.
