JSMU observes World Physical Therapy Day

To observe World Physical Therapy Day today, the Institute of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation-Jinnah Sindh Medical University (JSMU) organized a seminar and walk to create awareness about the role of physiotherapists in keeping people physically fit.

Vice Chancellor Professor Amjad Siraj Memon praised the efforts of the IPTR-JSMU for creating awareness sessions and said that physical therapists play a very central role in improving physical recovery following acute illnesses, therefore, it is important to recognize the importance of physiotherapy education.

Highlighting the significance of the World Physical Therapy Day, Director IPTR-JSMU Dr Muhammad Khan said that this Day is utilized to educate people about prevailing joint diseases and their prevention. Osteoarthritis is a common disease which people can prevent and delay by exercising, irrespective of age, he added as an example.

Registrar JSMU Dr Azam Khan distributed certificates of appreciation to the faculty and staff members of the Institute of Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation-JSMU.

Notable faculty members included Chairperson Pathology Department Dr Saadia Akram, Chairperson Biochemistry Department Dr Imrana Khan, Chairperson JSMU Student Council Professor Kefi Iqbal, Chairperson Department of Pharmacology Professor Dr Muhammad Azhar Mughal, and Controller Examination Dr Anita Shah. The session was moderated by Sahil Kumar and Malika Baig.

In addition, IPTR-JSMU also organized a walk to raise awareness about the fundamental contributions of physiotherapists in preserving the mobility of people. The event organizers included lecturer Dr Mehwish Khan, Lecturer Dr Fahad Khan, and Teaching Assistant Dr Kinza Ashfaq. Food and activity stalls were also arranged for participants.
