Guidelines for Summer Camps issued by the Govt.

With less than a month left in the ongoing summer vacations, the School Education Department (SED) Punjab on Monday, finally issued guidelines for organizing summer camps in both private and public schools.

As per the notification, all public and private schools are allowed to organize summer camps for terminal classes including 5th, 8th, 9th and 10th, with certain conditions i.e. seeking consent from parents of students. Moreover, the school cannot charge any fee from students and observed timings for the camp must be from 7:00 am to 10:30 am.

Academia mag understood the severity of the matter, even before the delayed response of authorities and published a detailed article on the fading culture of summer camps in Punjab and how certain schools were using it as a tool to earn more revenues in our June edition.

Now the question is, for how long will the authorities allow private and public schools to manipulate the odds by charging heavy fees or charges for summer camps. It was high time for the government to realize that a system of check and balance was needed to oversee if the conditions of the notification were being followed or violated by both public and private schools, with strict actions against the violators.
