GCU to confer lifetime achievement awards on distinguished alumni

The Government College University (GCU) Lahore will confer the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Awards upon its ten distinguished alumni from different walks of life to recognize their career-long outstanding work and achievements.

The announcement was made by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Asghar Zaidi on Thursday, saying that the prestigious award would be presented at the 20th convocation of GCU to be held from November 11 to 13.

Prof Zaidi revealed that the ten distinguished Old Ravians to be honored this year are the founder of Akhuwat Foundation Dr Muhammad Amjad Saqib, politician and lawyer Aitzaz Ahsan, educationist and rights activist Dr Arfa Sayeda Zehra, singer and philanthropist Hadiqa Kiani, nuclear scientist Dr Samar Mubarakmand, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Ramiz Raja, former University of Health Sciences (UHS) Vice-Chancellor and philanthropist Prof Dr Javed Akram, former foreign secretary of Pakistan Shamshad Ahmad, poet Prof Khurshid Rizvi and religious scholar Prof Ahmed Rafique Akhtar.

He said that GCU will continue its tradition of honoring its distinguished alumni for their career-long outstanding work in different fields of life. Last year, the University conferred lifetime achievement awards on distinguished Old Ravians S.M. Zafar, Mustansar Husain Tarar, Dr Pervez Hassan, Zia Mohyeddin and Syed Babar Ali.
