Youth Action Committee Announces March To Restore Student Unions

Youth Action Committee on Monday,  announced a long march in Hyderabad on September 21 for the restoration of student unions at higher education institutes of Sindh.

In a press conference, Youth Action Committee’s representative Sindhu Nawaz Ghangro demanded both the federal and provincial government to restore student unions, as they were imperative to resolve  issues faced by students at the university level.

She said Shaheed Mohtrama Benazir Bhutto was an active head of the Student Union in Oxford University but despite that she failed in restoring student union during her tenure as the Prime Minister of Pakistan. Sindhu said diffusion of extremism in HEI was only possible through student unions.

The March would be taken out from Alama Daudpota library to Hyder Chowk and would be attended by thousands of students from different parts of Sindh, she claimed. Sohail Bhutto, Serman Brohi, Hamza Ali Chandio, Sindhyar Soomro, Tabusum and other students of different universities were also present with her during the press conference.

Kashmir in focus as UET celebrates 72nd Independence Day

University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore observed 72nd Independence Day in solidarity with Kashmiris in light of India’s latest move to annex occupied Kashmir. UET Lahore main campus was fully decorated with national flags, banners and buntings to give a festive look. For this purpose, a Flag Hoisting ceremony was held at UET Seminar Hall.

UET Lahore Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar was the Chief Guest of event. He inaugurated the ceremony while hoisting the national flag followed by the National Anthem. Deans, chairpersons, teachers, students, senior administrative staff and other faculty members were also present on this occasion.

Addressing the participants UET Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Syed Mansoor Sarwar said having a fee country was indeed a blessing “Pakistan is our motherland and we should own it by performing our duties with a sense of responsibility. It is a matter of pride that in Muslim Ummah we have a rich and diverse culture, climate and talent. It must be properly used for the progress and prosperity of Pakistan”.

He also said, “This land requires dedication, commitment and enthusiasm and in this regard, our youth has great potential to deliver their level best.” He strongly condemned the brutality of India on the people of occupied Kashmir. Special prayers were said for the peace and prosperity of the country and the people of occupied Kashmir and most of the Muslim world.

Schools to Kick-off Cleanliness Drive Before Summer Vacation Ends

The school education department (SED), the government of Punjab has issued a circular to all 53,000 schools across the province to complete the cleanliness drive in their respective schools before the end of summer vacations.

All educational officers and school heads have been ordered to clean classrooms, playgrounds, washrooms and roofs before August 14. The cleaning staff has been directed to remove wild bushes from school playgrounds before the given deadline.

The school administration has also been directed to place towels, soaps and other related items in washrooms and to place informational banners for awareness against the dengue virus.

All provincial schools have been asked to submit a detailed report in this regard, adding that any complaint on issues related to cleanliness would be handled strictly.

The circular issued in this regard reads as below:

As you know that, schools will be re-opened on 02.08.2021 after summer vacations. In this regard, please ensure the following necessary measures as prescribed in dengue SOPs before opening the schools.

• Cleanliness (premises, toilets, water tanks, roof tops etc.)

• Display of Dengue related Banners, Posters & Charts

• Grass Cutting from lawns and grounds

• Removal of junk/ debris

• Removal of stagnant water

• Plugging of water leakages

• Identification of dengue larvae and larviciding

• All kinds of spray are Banned

You are further requested to direct all the DEOs, Dy. DEOs, AEOs and Head of schools to ensure compliance of the above said directions in letter and spirit, as well as uploading snaps showing anti-dengue activities through android phones/tabs on dengue dashboard of PITB.
