RMU Gets Formal Recognition from HEC

Rawalpindi Medical University (RMU) has received a formal recognition from the Higher Education Commission (HEC). The RMU was previously a top quality medical college and was only granted a university status by Punjab government in May 2017.

The university is among three new public sector universities sanctioned by the provincial government in recent months. A spokesman for RMU termed the recognition a pleasant development. “As a pleasant improvement in the current scenario of health education in Punjab, the residents of the twin cities can now be proud to have a public sector health university of Punjab in Rawalpindi, since the newly created Rawalpindi Medical University has been officially recognised as a medical university by the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan,” he said.

He added among the three newly created medical universities, RMU was the only one that had fulfilled HEC’s quality standards and criteria for recognition in a record time of three months.

The spokesman said a detailed inspection of the facilities at RMU was carried out by an HEC team the previous month and the team had found the university having adequate infrastructure, resources and measures for meeting quality standards sought by the commission.

RMU acting Vice Chancellor Professor Muhammad Umar said he was looking forward to working for the progress of the Rawalpindi Medical University.
