Registration Of Religious Seminaries By The Education Ministry Kicks Off

The Ministry for Federal Education and Professional Training has started initiating necessary steps and measures to link religious seminaries with the ministry, as part of the government’s new campaign related to the registration of religious seminaries working across Pakistan.

According to the sources, the government has decided to establish ten directorates in different parts of the country in a bid to register seminaries. A special directorate would be established in the federal capital as a governing or overseeing authority and a grade 21 officer would be employed to run errands of the governing authority. The sources also revealed that at least four directors would be employed in different departments including registration, finance, examination and coordination.

The administrative staff of these departments would operate as public sector employees and the education ministry would be responsible to bear their expenses. “Around two registration centres would be established in each province while one each would be in the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) and Gilgit-Baltistan (GB),” the sources added.

“The Model Religious Seminaries and their board would be transferred from the Ministry of Religious Affairs to the education ministry by next week. However, the induction of a Madrassa Board chairman would also be made possible through a legal process,” they added.

The sources further revealed that three model religious seminaries established in Islamabad, Sukkur and Karachi would also work under the jurisdiction of the education ministry. Numerous facilities including books, modern education tools, other materials and salaries of the teachers would be provided by the government. Moreover, teachers would be hired through a joint consultation process of the concerned directorates operational in the provinces and the Madaris administration. Also the funds for the project would be requested in line with the supplementary grant after the budget of 2019-2020.
