HEJ’s Journal Club discusses novel ideas for the latest research paper

HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, University of Karachi organized a seminar to discuss the novel ideas of the latest research paper of the top foreign scientist. Hunain Ali, a PhD scholar of the HEJ Research Institute of Chemistry, presented and discussed the research paper of the leading international scientist in the seminar held under HEJ’s Journal Club.

Having a discussion on the research paper of the top foreign scientist, Hunain Ali said, “Almost all medicines available for human use are made up of carbon as carbon is an essential part of biological as well as non-biological systems.”

It is pertinent to mention here that the latest research paper was selected from Organic Letters, which is an internationally famous biweekly peer-reviewed scientific journal covering research in organic chemistry. Organic Letters is the prestigious publication of the American Chemical Society (ACS).

The PhD scholar maintained that the most common medicine paracetamol, which is commonly used to treat fever and mild pain, had a carbon backbone. Not only this, some complex medicines such as doxorubicin, which is an anticancer medicine commonly used in chemotherapy, have a framework made up of carbon, he said.

Vitamin D, which is essential for calcium absorption and some other important functions in body, is composed of carbon, he said, adding that the honey or milk or some other essential food products are a mixture carbon containing molecules.

It is pertinent to mention here that the HEJ’s Journal Club was set up on the advice of Prof Dr M Iqbal Choudhary, Director of the International Center for Chemical and Biological Sciences (ICCBS), and COMSTECH Coordinator General. The HEJ’s Journal Club is an interactive platform set up for the exchange of the most exciting developments in chemical and bio-chemical sciences between scholars, including modern techniques involved in research and development in this field.  The talk was followed by the question & answer session.
