FPCCI to build Business Incubation Centre at UHE

To facilitate fresh graduates and entrepreneurs with brilliant business ideas, the establishment of Business Incubation Centre was inaugurated at the University of Home Economics (UHE) Lahore with generous funding of 34.36 million rupees by the Chairman the federation of Federation of Pakistan Chambers of Commerce & Industry (FPCCI) Irfan Iqbal Sheikh.

The foundation laying ceremony was attended by Minister for Higher Education Raja Yassir Humayun, Chairman Irfan Iqbal Sheikh and Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen. The generous donor for BIC is also the co-chairman of the ORIC steering committee of the UHE.

Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen, Vice-Chancellor, presented the idea and cause of BIC, she said BIC will have the capacity to support a group of students for their startups as young entrepreneurs with exciting business ideas and they will be provided training at BIC to establish new businesses. Prof Ameen further explained that business ideas will not only be provided financial support to the students, but they also benefit from the supervision and guidance of experts from industry in their respective fields. She said UHE is encouraging its students towards entrepreneurship in order to get financial liberation.

The Vice-Chancellor also admired and appreciated Mr Irfan Iqbal Sheikh for generous funding to establish the Business Incubation Centre. While speaking at the inauguration, The Minister for Higher Education Punjab, Raja Yassir Humayun said, education should not be confined to getting white-collar jobs and getting into public offices, there is a dire need to empower our educated youth through entrepreneurship.

The generous donor then President FPCCI Irfan Iqbal Sheikh said businessmen earn wealth by doing business in Pakistan, it is the prime responsibility of the business community to pay back our society. He also announced the initial financial assistance and funding to those students for executing their business ideas. He said, BIC is the brainchild of Prof Dr Kanwal Ameen and we will together protect the future of students of this university through this Centre.

While briefing the guests, Syed Muhammad Waqas, Director Planning & Development, said, the construction of the Business Incubation Center building will be completed in 3 months.

The Vice-Chancellor presented a token of appreciation to Mr Irfan Iqbal Sheikh for supporting the education cause.

The foundation laying ceremony was also attended by Dr Bushra Mirza, Vice-Chancellor Lahore College for Women University (LCWU), President Alumnae Association Dr Rafia Tahir, Dr Dardana Malik, Registrar Shujaat Munif Qureshi, Syed Mohib Shamsi, Muhammad Kashif, Dr Wahab Ali, Ahmed Faraz, faculty members and officers.
