Alvi Wants Inequalities In Education System Removed

President Dr Arif Alvi on Tuesday stressed upon the need for introducing a uniform educational system across the country, saying inequalities in education system and disparities among students from various walks of life must be removed.

Addressing the 34th medal and prize distribution ceremony of the Federal Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (FBISE) at the Aiwan-e-Sadr, the president said the world was rapidly changing on back of technological advancement and Pakistan must get ready to brace the revolution knocking at its doors. Pakistan must pave the way for modern teaching and learning mechanism that are in practice worldwide, he added.

Alvi said Pakistan’s literacy rate of 58% offered ample food for thought, as there were still about 20 million children out of school. He said a pilot project to enroll out-of-school children would be launched in Islamabad first and later replicated across the country.

Besides the president, Federal Education Minister Shafqat Mehmood, Parliamentary Secretary Wajiha Akram and FBISE Chairman Dr Ikram Ali Malik were also present at the ceremony.

Shafqat Mahmood praised FBISE for setting up a precedent of excellence in education.

FBISE Chairman Dr Ikram Ali Malik also highlighted the overall performance and achievements of the board in ensuring quality examination system and facilitating the people. A total of 27 position-holders were awarded medals, cash prizes and merit certificates.

Later in the day, President Arif Alvi also met a group of participants of the National Leadership Programme of Sindh Madarsatul Islam, Karachi. The president said youth were the leaders of the future and they could make the country achieve great feats by following the guiding principles of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah.
